History of Sprout

Sprout was initially started in 2005 in the Kunming area of Yunnan as an agricultural business serving the needs of Yunnan’s minority peoples (our official name is translated as Kunming Living Springs Agricultural Business).

Current owners Jeff and Scott bought the company in 2013 then rented land in the Lijiang region where they planted their first batch of cherry trees later that year which included Benton, Brooks and Ranier varieties.

In 2015, Sprout signed a long-term contract on 2.5 acres of land just outside of Lijiang, in the shadow of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain to develop a sustainable agriculture demonstration farm.

In 2016, Sprout’s cherry trees were transplanted over to this new land and blueberries and seaberries were also added. Sprout intends to plant more varieties of fruiting trees, various herbs and also vegetables in the year to come with a view to developing a “self-pick” area for friends and families to come enjoy and relax in the refreshing surroundings. Sprout is also committed to using organic practices and plans to pursue organic certification within the next few years.
